Is It Chronic Bronchitis, Malformed Lungs, or Just Post-Nasal Drip?
For years, whenever I caught a cold, it turned into a two- to three-month affair. I would cough so frequently that I could barely complete a sentence. Long after the stuffy nose and the sore throat had passed, I was downing bottles of cough syrup-but I otherwise felt fine. I saw doctor after doctor, but most never gave me any diagnosis. They just downplayed how problematic it was. A few took x-rays of my lungs but they never seemed to find anything-or at least, they never suggested a solution.I used multiple pillows and a vaporizer at night. It was usually a dry cough and expectorant never did anything for me. One doctor, a pediatrician, I believe, claimed I had chronic bronchitis. If I remember correctly, he gave me some antibiotics that may have helped some, but not nearly enough.In high school, I saw a doctor who blamed my cough on my dog-even though the cough wasn’t a year-round problem. She did eventually suggest that I had post-nasal drip and that I use nasal spray and drink lots
