Yes, taking the ferry is the cheapest option. And yes, there is regular service between Piraeus and Heraklion. However, Taking the ferry is my least favourite option, even if it is much cheaper. My preferred method for getting to the islands is by air. Flying is the most expensive option, but it is the fastest way of getting there (less than 1 hour flight). If you can afford it, I definitely STRONGLY recommend flying. If you are willing to fly at ‘funny’ times (early morning, later at night), you can get a decent price. Regardless, it is worth the price! If you can’t fly, then you must sail. The next best method is to take the high-speed ferry. (Note: I am not sure if the high-speed ferry operates on the Piraeus – Heraklion route). It is cheaper than flying but more expensive than the ‘normal’ ferry. It is also more comfortable than the normal ferry. Most importantly, it is at least twice as fast as the normal ferry (4-5 hours trip). If there is no high-speed and you can’t/won’t fly, y
