Is it cheaper to buy a cheap desktop computer and upgrade it yourself?
The answer to your question is something for you to answer. What I mean is that you need to decide what it is that you want out of a system. Is it for games that require top notch graphics or are you more into the video and music thing? Is it for general purpose or to run your companies business and accounting or is it just for fun? I build my computers exclusive (or mostly) using salvaged parts that I pick up very cheap or sometimes for nothing. As when I am hired to work on someone’s system for an upgrade and take their discarded components which I can use to build starter computers for inexperienced users or perhaps on my own system. I don’t play games but like video and music as well as general use and my current system investment is zero. It is a Pentium 4 with a 2.40 gigahertz processor, a 1024 megabyte memory capacity and one open bank, DVD burner, creative Labs sound card, an ATI x1050 graphics card and 256 mb’s memory and a 160 GB hard drive and it does more than what I need.
