Is it bye bye to BioMed board?
By GORDON VINCENT news@woburnonline.com WOBURN – The city’s BioMedical Oversight Committee is one vote away from extinction, after the City Council’s Ordinance Committee voted recently to recommend the board’s abolition. The full council is expected to vote on the matter at its regular meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 6. The BioMedical Oversight Committee was established by the council about a decade ago to enforce regulations for businesses in the city that handle hazardous materials. While there are several businesses in the city that handle such substances, the city’s Board of Health has essentially taken over the committee’s duties, according to Mayor Thomas McLaughlin. As well, there are numerous state and federal regulations which must be met by these kinds of companies. Also, membership in the board has waned to the point that the committee is “essentially defunct,” McLaughlin said. Fire transfers – The council’s Finance Committee endorsed the following series of transfers submitted by
