Is it better to watch movies in theaters or DVDs at home?
The perfect world answer to this question would obviously be The Theater. But we do not live in a perfect world, and so I have discovered that watching a movie at the theater almost always makes for a profoundly disappointing experience. 1) Theaters are uncomfortable. The stale smell of popcorn combines with an annoying amount of pre-film commercials that I thought I was paying for the privilege to avoid. Networks charge advertisers money so that I can watch those shows for “free.” So, who’s picking up the money from these advertisers while I am punished with the interminable slide shows, charity pleas and tinny musack. Then the temperature starts to set into my bones. It’s always too cold, and I seem to never remember to bring a fleece parka. But I sit in these painfully lumpy seats eating expensive junk so that I can have my feet stick to the floor. 2) Theaters are havens of rudeness. Teenagers chatting during the film, little kids whining about something because they are obviously n
