Is it better to use buses or trains around thailand ?
If the trains are going where you want to go then go ahead and use them if you want. There are some places that trains do not go to or the times may not be convenient. Bus might be cheaper sometimes. It really depends on where you want to end up at. If a bus and a train are going to the same place and the distance is long (like to Chiang Mai) it might be more comfortable on the train. You can also book a sleeper car when you take a train during the night hours. If you want a sleeper car get the request in at least a few days ahead of time. When you get a bus get a bus from a real bus station. Some of the buses booked through Khao San Road travel agencies have problems from time to time. Almost every post I read about problems with bus travel have been on buses booked in the KSR area. When you use a bus or a train keep your money, medicines, jewelry, passport, travelers checks with you at your seat or within sight.
