Is it better to give my dog commercial dog food or home cooked meals?
Both options are okay, depending on your circumstances. Commercial dog food is convenient and helps keep your dog’s poop solid. Reputable dog food brands can be filling and nutritious, although some fur parents like myself would rather know exactly what ingredients go into their pets’ food and would rather cook for them. It’s also useful when a pet is allergic to certain ingredients.
I make sure to feed my dogs different kinds of protein, such as chicken, beef, pork, venison, and salmon, while adding some eggs, liver, and veggies. I also rotate the veggies, making sure they are getting nutrients from various sources. If you’re planning the home cooked route, however, make sure to know which human foods are toxic to pets.
Cooking for my pets is therapeutic for me and gives me the peace of mind that I know what stuff goes into their bodies. But I wanted to play it safe and make sure they aren’t lacking in anything, as you can only get certain nutrients from food, so I added a dog multivitamin in their meals to ensure they’re getting enough of everything. I suggest checking out Superdog Solutions. It’s made of organic and natural ingredients.
