Is it better to declare a major right away?

There is no “right” answer to this question, but here are some guidelines: 1. If you have been thinking of the same major for some time, then select it. 2. If you think you want one of several majors all within one College – then choose: Undecided-College of (your interest). For example: if you know you want to teach but are undecided whether you want to teach 1st grade or 4th or 7th – choose Undecided College of Education. 3. If you are generally undecided are considering majors which are very different from each other, then being Undeclared is a good option. At SFA, undeclared students are offically designated as: Undecided College of Liberal and Applied Arts.
