Is it bad to get female cats neutered before they have had one litter?
Absolutely not! It’s better for them NOT to go into heat or have a litter before they’re spayed. Ideally, they should be spayed at about four months of age. The whole idea that cats should experience childbirth before being spayed is pure bunk. Everything they do with regard to reproduction is driven purely on instinct. It has nothing at all to do with them longing to be a mother and they suffer absolutely zero psychological or physical consequences from never having kittens. Having them spayed before they go into heat will ensure they don’t ever experience any of the risks of heat cycles such as pyometra and becoming pregnant. Pyometra is a potentially lethal uterine infection that females are at risk for with every heat cycle. You’ll also be eliminating her risk for uterine and ovarian cancer, as well as significantly reducing her risk for mammary cancer. So… no… absolutely do not permit her to go into heat or have kittens before she’s spayed.
