Is it at all possible to increase my pathetic running speed?
You just need to run more. Run at least ___ miles per week. (Start with 10 miles.) Take 1-2 days of rest each week. Then, it has been proven that the key number to increase a runner’s stamina gradually is to add 2 miles for weekly mileage. So then run 12 miles during week #2. You’ll probably want to stop around 20 miles, which will be about 3-4 miles per day, but if you feel great, keep going!! Unlike one of the above posters said, less weight is not necessarily good! (I don’t think I’m “heavy” either, average at about 115 lbs, but I eat so much!) You need energy, so make sure you eat enough — just as much as you’re burning. (Most people burn 100-ish calories per mile.) You should eat energy bars and protein bars. Eggs, lean meats, and green veggies are great. Orange juice and Gatorade are some of my favorite drinks. Make sure you drink at LEAST 6 glasses of water per day. (When I do track and run 6 miles a day, I drink at least 10 water bottles every day.) You need to be hydrated or
