Is it appropriate for children to consume soymilk?
Yes. Soymilks fortified with calcium and vitamin D should be part of a healthy diet for children over 12 months of age who do not consume cow’s milk. The USDA’s 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans and Food Guide Pyramid for Young Children both identify fortified soymilk as a healthy food choice and non-dairy alternative. Soymilks, however, are not a substitute for infant formula. (66) Learn more about soy and children.
