Yes, provided the watch goes with the overall ensemble. Think of a watch as an accesory rather than just a timepiece and try to collect several to be worn with different outfits. A cloth strapped “Swatch” watch is obviously inappropriate- but one worn on a delicate silver chain will look just as good as a bracelet when worn with most evening wear. If your gown is black, a slim black leather strap is also acceptable. For a very special occasion you could even look for a watch that matches the rest of your outfit. If you can’t afford a new watch and your current one isn’t appropriate, try taking it with you in your clutch bag, so that you can check the time when necessary.
