Is it alright to rename a 5 year old husky dog?
I have fostered many dogs. The majority of the dogs have come with no history. With no history you don’t know their name. I’ve never once had a problem with a dog accepting a new name. Honestly they will learn the new name very quickly. What I would do to teach the dog its new name… Say the dog’s new name in an upbeat tone. When the dog looks at you… reward. Use the name often to get the dog used to hearing it. You should see within a day the dog will respond to the new name. My dogs each have a name and a couple nicknames, plus they all respond to “Dog” and they never get confused.
