Treatment of Chlamydia: (1) Doxycycline 100 mg 2-3 times a day for 10-14 days, or (2) Zithromax® (azithromycin) 1.0 gm (4 x 250 mg) a single dose, or (3) Zithromax® Z-pak® (azithromycin) – 500mg on day 1, followed by 1 tab (250mg) once a day for 4 more days The doctor has prescribed 4 tablets/capsules 250 mg in a single dose. If you opt for Zithromax Z-pak, you should take 2 tablets (250mg each) on the first day followed by 1 tab (250mg) once a day for 4 more days. Sustained release (SR) or extended release (ER) tablets should not be broken into fragments. If it is broken, it will not have desired long term effects.
