Is it advisable to take “contract” assignments as a transitional step to a new area of practice?
We see increasing numbers of attorneys who make a successful transition to a new practice area by establishing their credentials through project work. However, individual project assignments are normally short-term and may be cancelled with little notice, so we do not recommend that attorneys leave secure employment unless they fully appreciate the risks of pursuing this strategy.
