Is It Advisable To Drink Tap Water On Airplanes?
You should always be cautious when drinking tap water from washrooms, or from fountains on airplanes, as there have been several incidents in the past when testing found coliform and E. coli in this water. In some countries, it is difficult to tell if the water, which is supplied by airports, is properly treated. The real problem is that some airlines do not carry an adequate supply of bottled, spring water and there have been reports that some flight attendants simply filled empty bottles of treated water with regular tap water, available in the galley. With new security regulations, passengers are often no longer permitted to bring their own bottled water on board, meaning that they must rely on that which is served on the plane. The best approach is to ask flight attendants to bring you a small bottle of water, if possible, rather than simply water in a glass. Also, the passenger should be permitted to open the bottle him/herself, to see that the seal has not been broken.
