Is it acceptable if rich countries exploit poor countries?
No, it’s not ethical or acceptable for wealthier countries to exploit poorer ones, and the ramifications can be devastating for generations, but unfortunately, it happens all too frequently. The vast majority of African countries have been horrifically exploited by Western ones. The mental image I have is of a cowboy boot pressed down on the neck of a malnourished villager and refusing to release him until exorbitant demands are met, when of course, the villager is immobilized and has absolutely nothing left to give. Wealthier countries have kept poorer ones down for generations, long before slavery and colonization, and despite Obama’s promises that it would finally cease in a speech he delivered last June about how the West exploits Africa, the boot is still firmly in place. Western countries like to boast about aid they give to poorer nations, but in reality the gifts come with strings that all but choke those who accept them.
