Is it a health hazard to collect household rubbish, including food waste, on alternate weeks?
• We are aware that there is currently a great deal of publicity in the media suggesting that AWC is a health hazard. Much of it is uninformed and misleading but we know it causes concern. • The Council is not aware of any official government information, research or reports which suggest that AWC has an adverse effect on public health. • The Wycombe Report (published March 2007 from independent research commissioned by the Government), found no evidence that AWC causes any adverse health impacts. • By using the containers provided for residual waste as instructed, there should be no increased health risk. • Residents need to take responsibility for the care of the waste they produce before the Council collects it. We will provide advice and support to help residents overcome problems. • If you are concerened please look at our Hygienic Storage of Waste pages.
