Is is safe to plan a family whilst taking finasteride?

Over 20 years of use, finasteride has been proven to be very safe. This includes the manufacturers stating that it is safe for men to father children whilst taking it. What is important, is that women do not take it, especially if pregnant, in case it did have side effects on the baby. No other precautions are required though (ie condoms).
