Is is safe for a mid-20s Australian female to backpack alone in Thailand?
If you are very pretty, it will not be safe. Every guy you meet will want to chase after you! LOL Joke aside, Thailand is one of the safest countries you can head to and backpack own your own. The other country will be Singapore where I am, cause you can cover it in one day and have left before anything can happen. Sooorry. Fact is, as some of the people who knew Thailand had answered, the zthais are a very hospitable lot, and not for the tourist money only, they may even put you up in their home if you need to. At no charge even. They are always intrigued by foreigners who want to explore their country, which they feel is pretty common looking and nothing exceptional. More so by a lady backpacker, alone some more. I had coached a single lady backpacker last year on her trip and she had a good time backpacking by herself.
