If you are chatting, just using a secure chat server (like Yahoo, AIM, etc.), the other person cannot find your IP address. However, if you use some peer-to-peer service in the chat program (like CTCP in IRC), they can find your IP address, because in this case you are communicating directly with each other instead of through a server, which can hide your IP address from the other person.

Hi nowdays there are many softwares available online to find the ip address of person chatting with you ,person sending junk email and so on ..You can search in google for those software and find the ip address ..After finding the ip address you can easily trace the location of that ip address using sites like WhoisXY.com here they render whois search tool which display some necessary details about that ip address like ip location ,country ,ISP address and so on …
