Is inverter technology in air-cons used in modern aircrafts?
No. The type of inverter you are speaking of allows the unit to continuously regulate its thermal power flow by altering the speed of the compressor in response to cooling demand. The inverters that are used in aircraft electrical distribution systems, convert DC voltage to AC voltage. There are basically two types of air conditioning on aircraft. Some airplanes have one or the other, but some have both types. The first type is a freon air conditioner such as you would find in a car. They are either engine driven (rare) or driven by an electric motor. They are as basic as an air conditioner gets and don’t have the inverter technology in them. Some business jets have a freon airconditioning system located in the tail cone (hell hole). It is used primarily on the ground and during the climb out on hot days. Many of them have a service ceiling and will activate a light on the annunciator panel or automatically shut down at that altitude. The other type is the ACM or air cycle machine. In
