To systematically review the evidence for effectiveness of intranasal zinc used to treat a common cold, and pool the results in a meta-analysis, researchers in Auckland New Zealand undertook a literature search of the Cochrane register, Medline and EMBASE databases for randomised placebo controlled trials in patients with a common cold. They found 5 studies of which three were relevant.
