Is Internet2 synonymous with the Abilene network?
Internet2 is more than just the high-speed network called Abilene. It is more than just a universities, colleges, government agencies, and corporations putting money into a physical network. Internet2 is also fresh ideas, research, and collaborations for improving applications and services that may in turn be passed on to the world at large. Abilene is the name given to the original Internet2 national backbone infrastructure.
