In Brazil the composition of recycled paper is not regulated. There are products sold as recycled in which less than 1% of the pulp is recycled. The manufacturing processes for white paper and recycled paper are very similar, and include all the care necessary to guarantee environmental conservation and to control the impact caused by the production chain. The two production processes are differentiated basically in the preparation of the pulp. In white paper the pulp is made of 100% virgin fiber. In the case of recycled paper the pulp contains fiber from the processing of paper scraps. In the manufacture of recycled paper the scraps go through several processing, treatment and purification stages, which extract impurities and dyes from the paper.
