Is Interactivity Chaotic?
My freshman seminar is about the Mathematics of Chaos, and when I was reading Chapter 5 of Avatars of Story, I noticed a relationship between chaos and interactivity. Now, I pose a question: For something to be completely interactive, does it have to be chaotic? “Completely interactive” is a hard term to define, but I don’t think any text can be completely interactive because there has to be some story-line within the text or game. Complete interactivity then, can maybe be defined as something like a conversation between two people. The two people are in the conversation, not having any control over what the other person is saying. This idea could be replicated in a story-world, but never one hundred percent. Chaos in math though, is not complete randomness. There are patterns in it, which almost seem to make it not chaos.
