Is insurance available for business activity in Iraq?
Insurance is available for firms engaged in business in Iraq. For those working under contract or subcontract in the U.S. funded reconstruction effort, workers compensation insurance for civilian employees is required. In accordance with the Defense Base Act (“DBA”), all U.S. Government contractors and subcontractors working outside the United States must secure workers’ compensation insurance for their civilian employees. Insurance is also available for businesses activities other than U.S. funded reconstruction contracts, such as Iraqi ministry contracts or private sector ventures, where Defense Base Act insurance coverage is not available.
