Is INRS trying to grow? Will more Surveys be created or Divisions added to INRS?
The INRS is not pursuing growth in terms of more Surveys or Divisions. ITARP/ISAS is one of a few independently funded research units on campus who have approached INRS to see if they would be better positioned to fulfill their missions in INRS than they are in their present administrative position. INRS will not accommodate any units whose missions are not in line with that of INRS or whose incorporation would negatively impact their or INRS resources. INRS continues to be focused on its mission “to provide objective, integrated scientific research and service, in cooperation with other academic and research units of the University of Illinois and elsewhere that allow citizens and decision-makers to make choices that assure sustainable economic development and enduring environmental quality for the people, businesses, and governments of Illinois.” The addition of the new Illinois State Archaeological Survey helps advance that mission.
