Is Indian agriculture moving in the right direction now?
The term Green Revolution (coined by an American scientist William Gaud) was designed to denote higher productivity by the more efficient functioning of green plants. We all live on this earth as guests of the green plant, which alone can make food from sunlight, and of the farmers who cultivate plants and provide us with the necessary food. The Green Revolution became a Greed Revolution when some farmers started land and water mining through the excessive use of mineral fertilisers and excessive exploitation of groundwater. I had warned in January 1968, much before the term Green Revolution was coined, that if ecologically sound principles are not used, we might face an agriculture disaster in the long run. Green Revolution technology involves the cultivation of crop varieties which can respond to good soil fertility management and irrigation water.
