IS INCOMPLETE ABORTION ACCOUNTED FOR IN COMPLICATION STATISTICS?
Only a certain percentage (most probably a small percentage, as incomplete abortion is considered a delayed complication, usually occurring between three days and two weeks after the procedure 57) of complications from incomplete abortion are accounted for in the Statistics Canada Therapeutic Abortions publication: that is immediate complications 31 , i.e. the ones that occurred during the procedure or in the postoperative period 58, and only for 76% of hospital cases 32, when 33% of abortions in 1995 were performed in clinics 34, and clinics performed twice the number of late abortions performed in hospitals, and this later in pregnancy 35.
