Is In-flight Service Really Better In “Premium Economy” Than In Regular Economy Cabins?
A handful of airlines, including British Airways, have realized that many passengers are unable to pay for the high cost of business class seats, but would be willing to pay a little more for their ticket, in exchange for more comfort and a higher level of service than that offered in economy class. In order to answer this need, airlines such as British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Canada’s Zoom Airlines and United Airlines, have added an extra class on their longhaul flights, usually called “Premium Economy,” “Economy Plus,” or, as in the case of BA, “World Traveller Plus.” Premium economy usually costs at least $100 or more each way on top of the price of regular economy class tickets.
