Is immaculate conception possible in modern times?

People often confuse the Virgin Birth with the Immaculate Conception. They are two very different doctrines although most people wrongly think they are one and the same. As far as I know the Virgin Birth is a traditional Christian doctrine accepted by most of the major denominations – Roman Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant. I believe it is also accepted by Islamic denominations. The Immaculate Conception is a comparatively recent Roman Catholic doctrine. One of the few, so called “infallible” teachings by a Pope – Pius IX in 1854.
