Is hypnotherapy recognised by the medical profession?
Generally speaking, yes. Some GPs remain sceptical, but many more are convinced that hypnotherapy works. All doctors are aware of the so-called ‘placebo effect’ whereby a patient is given a harmless tablet with no active ingredients but is told that the tablet will help his condition. In many cases, the simple belief that the tablet will help is enough to actually assist the patient, clearly demonstrating the power of the mind. As hypnotherapy aims to change your beliefs, it operates in a very similar way – what you believe affects the way you think and act.
