Is hypnotherapy covered by insurance?
Because of the Washington State legislation requiring registration of hypnotherapists, doors were opened several years ago for insurance reimbursement inside Washington…and it could spread to other states. Certain health care plans in Washington State include coverage for hypnotherapy under certain circumstances when done by a Registered Hypnotherapist. While the scope of coverage is somewhat limited, and only a few plans offer such coverage, this is a start. Unfortunately, one of the states largest insurance companies caused us to take a step backwards by refusing to provide insurance coverage unless the provider was a physician, psychologist, or certified mental health counselor, even though state law apparently indicated otherwise.
