HBOT must be prescribed by a physician and performed under medical supervision. Although there are minor risks, like all medical treatments, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is extremely safe. Patients are not permitted to bring any items into the hyperbaric chamber other than themselves and the cotton scrubs provided. Are There Any Contraindications to Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? The only absolute contraindication to HBOT is an untreated tension pneumothorax (an accumulation of air or gas in the pleural cavity of the lungs).
