Is human evolution a straight line towards advancement or a crooked line towards our whims?
Not only is it not a straight line, it’s not even a crooked one! Evolution is best viewed as a bush or leafy tree, with branches and twigs in every direction. That makes living humans as one leaf on one twig of one branch, etc. A common misconception (especially among creationists) is that evolution is driven by advancement toward a fixed goal of achieving humanity — the pinnacle of life. This is a human-centric view of life.* Every living thing you can name — from a zebra to a cherry tree — is the product of an evolutionary process lasting just as long (or longer) than that which produced us. ———— * Indeed, the AB Admins have classified ‘evolution’ under human biology instead of where it belongs under general biology.
