Yes, it definitely is allowed in NSW. It’s completely legal in all Aussie states and territories. The most recent number I heard was that there are about 5,000 ‘homeschooled’ kids in NSW, a number that has pretty much doubled in the last two years. Don’t know who would have told your friend she couldn’t be home educated, nor why; not unless it was the school she asked or she was asking about doing Distance Ed. rather than home ed (home education, the Aussie name for homeschooling). They got it wrong anyway. It is left entirely up to your own parents whether you’re home educated or not. Home ed costs anything from a few dollars to literally thousands of dollars. My parents manage to educate me and my siblings themselves for approx $50, per kid, per year. It all depends how your parents want to do it.
