Is homemade baby food better than jarred?

Homemade food is not better than jarred unless you grow it yourself. However, fresh fruit is just as healthy, if not more so, because it is uncooked. Cooking destroys vitamins. It also destroys e.coli contamination (which is why they cook fruit meant for baby food). As much as folks like to argue about this, the veggies you get at the store are OLD. Baby food is packed the day it is picked. In addition, baby food is tested for contaminants while you likely have no way to do so. Fruit, on the other hand, is just as nutrient packed even if overripe. However, make certain you wash the stuff well. Making your own baby food saves you MONEY. That is really the best reason for making it. Many of the arguments about salt and such are based on baby food made up until the mid-90s. It isn’t made that way any more. Of course, it is more natural and cheaper. Your baby can benefit it, especially if you are using organic foods. It is better to spend money on organic foods, rather than paying the medical costs in the future, which definetely cost you more!

Yes it is better to have fresh food. There are preservatives in jar food that make it less nutritious. Jar food is still fine though.

of course, but lots of things are better and we dont do them 🙂 try a bit of both if you are worried, babies usually love fresh fruit, I know my kids did and that has got to be the best of all!

It’s better in so many ways. You can introduce your child to a wider variety of fruits and veggies, add sweet and savory spices, and make weeks worth of food in under 2 hours. I always used ice cube trays (the silicone ones are great) to freeze tiny portions and transferred them to labeled freezer bags. You can mix veggies and fruits for something new (try carrots and apples, or pumpkin puree and apples!), and it’s SO inexpensive. Sorry, but if I won’t choke down jarred food, I can’t expect my daughter to either! Everything I’ve made for her I’ve tasted, and it’s GOOD!! Good for you for taking the time out of your day to ensure your child has the best. And yes, wholesomebabyfood.com IS the best resource, bar none!!
