Maybe your local council will be better than a private agency. I work for a private agency and am run off my feet. I start at 07:00 and finish 22:00. Most days I don’t get a break for 7 and a half hours. The breakfast calls run straight into lunch. With most care work you will have to work some week-ends (on on one off) and every single bank/public holiday. I work twelve days then get alternative week-ends off. My agency puts me down to be in four places at the same time. You are not given any time for travelling from place to place so if you give the customer their allotted time, by the time you get to the next one you are late and so it goes on until you get to the end of your shift and are running about 3/4 of an hour or more late. Many of the families of the people I care for are forever complaining about the company (which I can do nothing about) or about my colleagues.
