Is high fructose corn syrup bad?
It is a sweetener that has a higher carbohydrate level than ‘regular’ corn syrup. Think of it as a sweeter sugar. You use less of it as an ingredient to get the same level of sweetness in an item. Remember moderation in all things. If you eat too many potatoes, breads, pasta’s, etc. (high carbohydrate items), and exercise less, you will gain weight. High Fructose Corn Syrup is not bad in and of itself. Eating too much of anything high in carbohydrates (or sugars, or fats, or alcohols, or caffeine, etc.) and exercising less will lead to weight gain. One thing to note about sugars in drinks is that they make you more thirsty for WATER. Most people think they need another drink of SODA POP, where they really need a drink of WATER. The reason is that the sugar/water balance in the cells of the body is tilted toward the sugar side and the body needs more water to bring it back to equilibrium.
