Not at all. There will always be a place for ‘conventional’ hand washing. Hands should always be cleaned with soap and water when they are visibly soiled, there has been direct contact with body fluids, there is an outbreak of diarrhoeal disease, or staff are caring for a patient with vomiting and/or diarrhoea.
