Is Heatstroke a life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical attention?”
Heat stroke (also called sunstroke) is an absolute medical emergency and a life threatening condition which demands immediate medical help to prevent further serious bodily harm and to prevent the death of the victim. Heat stroke is an advanced state of Hyperthermia and occurs when the body produces or absorbs more heat than it can dissipate and this is usually caused by prolonged exposure to a hot environment. The heat regulating mechanisms of the body eventually become overwhelmed at which time they can no longer effectively deal with the heat which in turn causes the body’s temperature to rise uncontrollably. At this point, the person suffering from these debilitating effects are now in a critical state and they must get immediate medical assistance and hospitalization.
