Yes they are! There is quite a bit of research showing that besides good nutrition value they have positive effects on your heart, lungs and arteries. As long as you stick to the milder ‘New Mexico” style chili peppers or Hungarian wax peppers there are are no potential risks of cancer (data linking increased cancer rate is very mild and may be due to other dietary factors) or irritation. Just as a side note, I suffered internal organ damage (including heart) from a prescription drug allergy. To stop angina I have a prescription for no heat cayenne pepper extract (they remove the heat chemical) and it works faster than nitro tabs.
