Is having a cold-air intake installed in my 04 Civic DX worth the risk of hydrolock?
K&N type filters are one of the most horrible things you can do for your car. The website says the actual dirt and dust that get trapped in the filter act as part of the filter, blah blah blah. While this may be true, what they dont tell you is that these filters let much more harmful dirt and dust particles into your engine then a regular paper filter. The performance gain you will get in a Honda Civic is also not worth the $200-$300. Air flow is slightly better at WOT with an intake and K&N but in my opinion the drawbacks far out weigh the benefits. I’d rather have an engine which is clean and reliable then one which I have to worry about scored cylinder walls and intake valves because there is a K&N type filter on it.
