If you’re getting more out at hand expressing, then I would say its more effective at increasing supply. Because the more you empty, the more it stimulates more production. So I would keep hand expressing. Pumping never worked for me either! Fortunately I can stay home so I exclusively nurse. EDIT: I dont know how old your LO is, but for practice in a cup I just use nursery water, diluted organic juice, or goats milk. He never drinks that much of it anyway since hes full on breastmilk.
