Is hammerhead shark eatable?
Almost all shark species have been exploited for food at one point or another. Of the nine species in the hammerhead family (Sphyrnidae), only the bonnethead shark is at a level considered stable. Others are either endangered, vulnerable, “near threatened,” or “data deficient.” The primary reason for this decline in hammerheads and all sharks is overfishing. Shark fins are especially prized in Asian cuisine, and millions of sharks each year are harvested for their fins. The great hammerhead, the most familiar of hammerhead species, is endangered due to this practice of overfishing.
