Is half of the population of all african muslims in North Africa?
I have seen estimates of from 41-45% of the total African Muslim population arising from North Africa. Historically, this makes eminent sense, given the Arab conquests beginning in the 7th Century AD/CE that cut across North Africa in about 2 generations. However, some demographers estimate that Muslim population growth in Sub-Saharan Africa will far outpace that of the North, making Sub-Saharan Africa the future “demographic center” of the world’s Muslim population.
