Is Hagel Running for Re-Election?
Ralston, Ne.- Senator Chuck Hagel (R-Nebraska) won’t say if he’s running for re-election or if he isn’t. But he was in three Fourth of July parades from Ralston to Norfolk to Seward. Watching Hagel it looks like he’s campaigning, and 24 hours earlier, when he was in Lincoln hosting a town hall on the War in Iraq, Hagel sounded like a campaign was coming. “We’ve got to pay attention to what we’re doing. There will be plenty of time for politics. There will plenty of time for Senate politics in the state.” Republican Attorney General Jon Bruning, who is running for Hagel’s Senate seat, didn’t used to think Hagel was running for re-election. Now Bruning is having second thoughts. “I think he might be (running) and I’m prepared to run against him. Frankly I hope he does. It establishes a very clear choice if Senator Hagel runs.” But the choice might not be so clear if another Republican, former Omaha Mayor and Congressman Hal Daub gets in the race.
