Is hacking video game consoles illegal?
Necroing this because it’s very important that people understand that upgrading, modifying, or using third-party products in their game consoles will not void your warranty. If anything you do damages it in a way that it requires service, the manufacturer does not have to cover it, but simply opening your xbox or PS3 and putting in a bigger HD does NOT void the warranty. It’s federal LAW. The same goes for hacking the software. You can put whatever operating system or enhancements you want on your console software, the act of doing it is not illegal or terms to void a warranty. Of course, the activities you do with whatever hardware or software upgrades could still be illegal.
