Is Guelphs drinking water safe?
Yes. Guelph has very high quality drinking water that undergoes more than 18,000 microbiological and chemical quality tests every year. Drinking water that is delivered to Guelph’s customers is repeatedly tested at the source and within the distribution system to ensure it is of high quality and meets all the prescribed standards. Lead test results to date have shown that source water and water within the distribution system contains either no lead or very low concentrations of naturally occurring lead (well below the Ontario drinking water quality standard of 10 micrograms per litre (10 parts per billion). In some cases it has been found that as water runs through pipes or fixtures made of lead, it is possible for lead to leach into the water and adversely affect the water quality. In homes with a lead water service, lead pipes, lead solder, or taps that have bronze or brass parts there is potential for trace amounts of lead to be present in tap water.
